Discover Kedai Kopi Hai Beng

Located at 216, Jalan Burma, 10350 George Town, Pulau Pinang, Malaysia, Kedai Kopi Hai Beng has become a must-visit spot for anyone craving authentic Malaysian breakfast fare. This local gem offers a delightful blend of traditional flavors, all served in a cozy yet lively atmosphere. Whether you're a regular or a first-timer, the moment you step into the café, you’ll be greeted by the rich aroma of freshly brewed coffee and the comforting sounds of sizzling local delicacies.

One of the highlights of Kedai Kopi Hai Beng is its signature coffee, which has garnered a loyal following over the years. Known for its rich, robust flavor, this coffee is prepared with care, using only the finest beans. It’s a perfect complement to the café’s selection of local dishes, many of which reflect the multicultural culinary influences that shape Penang's food scene. The café serves up local favorites like kaya toast, soft-boiled eggs, and an assortment of pastries that are perfect for a quick breakfast or a leisurely brunch.

The kaya toast, in particular, deserves a special mention. Served with a generous spread of homemade kaya (a sweet coconut jam) on perfectly toasted bread, it’s the ultimate comfort food for many. Paired with a hot cup of coffee, it’s a breakfast experience that transports you straight into the heart of Penang’s culinary traditions.

Another fan favorite is the half-boiled eggs, served in the traditional way with a dash of soy sauce and white pepper. The eggs are cooked to perfection, with the yolks just the right consistency-creamy yet firm. It’s a simple dish but one that hits the spot every time, especially when enjoyed with a side of crispy toast.

For those looking for something more substantial, Kedai Kopi Hai Beng also offers a variety of noodle dishes. Their char kway teow, stir-fried flat rice noodles with prawns, eggs, and bean sprouts, is a crowd-pleaser. The smoky flavor from the wok and the perfect balance of ingredients make it a dish worth coming back for. Additionally, the nasi lemak, a fragrant coconut rice dish served with sambal, fried anchovies, and hard-boiled eggs, is another must-try that showcases the depth of Malaysian flavors.

Kedai Kopi Hai Beng's reputation isn't just based on its food-it’s also a place that values community and experience. • I have been here and so far I'm liking it. I have tried the wantan noodles, nasi padang (or nasi melayu), and loh mee. The wantan noodles is famous from the 'ah hong lobang' channel. The white wantan mee was apparently the real traditional one. They are generous with the pork lard, and crispy pork lard bits. The noodles are springy and flavourful. I like the wanton the most. The skin is thin, good filling. The minced pork is fresh and flavourful. The nasi padang has a lot of dishes. I love their kacang botol kerabu. So refreshing and delicious. The daging rendang was cooked to perfection. The meat is so tender and it won't stuck in your teeth. Loh mee has nice 5 spices smell, and the gravy is thick. There are many other stalls I have yet to try. I will revisit some day later.

  • Okay, I'm just gonna say it: this is HANDS DOWN the best wantan mee I've had in years! And I'm SO mad at myself, I have to apologize, because we totally forgot to get any photos! The moment the plates hit our table, the smell was so incredible we just dove straight in without even thinking. My wife and I will literally travel anywhere for a good meal, so believe me when I tell you, this is the real deal. The noodles were perfectly springy, that thick soy sauce was just...WOW. We also tried their curry mee, which had this super unique and delicious twist to the broth. On top of the amazing food, the shop itself has this really calm, cool, and relaxing atmosphere – a perfect spot to just chill and escape the Penang heat for a bit. And whatever you do, you CANNOT leave without getting their teh-peng to wash it all down. You guys have to try this place!"

  • Hai Beng offers a Chinese Chai Pooi and a Muslim (Nasi Kandar) rice stall, showcasing up to 80 dishes among the 2 combined. The 2 stalls start selling typically lunch type meals from 800am. Both stalls are self-service, put whatever you want on your plate and you pay based on what’s on your plate.

  • We came here for the french toast and nasi padang. The toast stall is very clean. The nasi padang has a lot of varieties of selections which is very authentic and the best part is reasonably priced. And recently we noticed there is a new stall of duck/chicken drumstick noodle from popular sg. Pinang branch. . The drink is quite pricey here. The longan drink is priced at rm 2.70 Updated 11/10/24: The herbal soup meesuah stall already closed down. Some new stall coming up, hokkian mee, char hor fun and wan than mee. Today we tried the wan than mee. It was flavourful, the noodles is springy, the dumplings is big and yummy. The owner is friendly. His stall was in Pintal Tali before.

  • We visited this non-airconditional coffee shop on a few occasions to try all its popular food. Wantan mee, the white version was delicious. The sauce was good, and bbq pork was crispy. The green chilli was special. RM7 per small serving. 3 stars Loh mee is also nice. Braised was thick and flavourful. 3 stars Malay rice was delicious, and the selection was extensive. 4 stars
